Angus Gunn's Fitness Crucial for Norwich City's Promotion Hopes

Ex-Norwich City star Iwan Roberts emphasises the importance of Angus Gunn's fitness for the Canaries' promotion aspirations as they navigate the league season.

Ex-Norwich City star Iwan Roberts has stated that no goalkeeper at Carrow Road can match the talents of Canaries player Angus Gunn, highlighting the importance of having him fit and ready to aid the team's push for promotion. The 28-year-old has been a key performer for Norwich City in recent seasons and has started the current campaign impressively.

However, Gunn's recent rib injury sustained against Hull City before the international break has raised concerns about his availability for upcoming fixtures. Roberts stressed that securing Gunn's return to fitness is essential for the Canaries’ aspirations of finishing in the top six. According to a report by Inside Futbol, Roberts remarked, “You’ve got to have Angus fit, as simple as that, if you want to be serious contenders for either automatic or top-six.”

Roberts further noted, “You can't rule either [Gunn and Marcelino Nunez] out at the minute with the way things have gone. But you need your number one goalkeeper; you can't have him out for any length of time. No disrespect to the other keepers at the club, but I don’t think any of them is anywhere near as capable as Angus.”

This season, Gunn has featured in all nine league games for Norwich City. In Gunn's absence, George Long will take the place in goal for the Canaries as they aim to maintain their promotion challenge.
